'Clear favourites' tag becoming irrelevant in regional cricket

St John's, Antigua - Predicting ‘clear favourites’ in regional cricket is becoming increasingly perilous said President of the West Indies Cricket Board, Dr. Julian Hunte as he congratulated Barbados and Leeward Islands for their shared triumph in the recently concluded WICB Regional 50 Over Tournament.

Cornwall, Hinds top WICB 50 Over batting & bowling charts

St John's, Antigua - Statistics show that, for the most part, the captains led from the front in the WICB Regional 50 Over Tournament.

Leeward Islands captain Wilden Cornwall topped the runs table while his opposing captain in the final - Barbados’ Ryan Hinds - topped the wickets tally.

Cornwall, the burly all rounder, registered 188 runs in five innings with an average of 37.6 while Barbados batsman Kirk Edwards totaled three runs less than Cornwall but averaged 46.25.

Kingston, Jamaica – The Leeward Islands will be looking to use the momentum gained from their victory in the WICB 50 Over Tournament to make another positive impact when the WICB Caribbean T20 is played next year.

Speaking shortly after sharing the 50 over title with Barbados after the final ended in a thrilling tie on Sunday at Sabina Park, Leewards skipper Wilden Cornwall outlined the plan was to win the 20/20 event.

Kingston, Jamaica - Montserratian pacer Lionel Baker produced a sizzling career best five wicket haul to lead Leeward Islands in bowling out Barbados for 139 in a low scoring affair and cause a tied match in the final of the WICB Regional 50 Over Tournament at Sabina Park.

Barbados and Leewards comfident ahead of WICB 50 Over final

Kingston, Jamaica – After 10 days of enthralling cricket we have reached the grand climax and on Sunday, Barbados and the Leeward Islands will come head-to-head in the final of the WICB Regional 50 Over Tournament at Sabina Park. First ball is 9 am (10 am Eastern Caribbean Time). Barbados have played unbeaten so far and will be looking to maintain that record. The Leewards have done the hard work to reach the final and will be looking for revenge against the Bajans who beat then in the opening match.
