Woakes ton floors JA

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Chris Woakes battered Jamaica’s inexperienced bowling attack into submission with a stroke-filled hundred for the England Lions in the WICB Regional first-class championship on Thursday. Woakes, batting at eight, was undefeated on 104 – his third first-class hundred – to lead the Lions to 340 for nine in their first innings at the close on the opening day of their seventh round match at Sabina Park.

Hinds rescues JA with 131 not out

Kingston, Jamaica – Veteran Wavell Hinds stroked a superb, unbeaten century to rescue leaders Jamaica against Trinidad and Tobago on the opening day of their sixth round WICB First-Class Tournament match on Friday.

The 34-year-old left-hander has so far made 131 not out as Jamaica finished on 297-5 at Sabina Park. He has so far been involved in an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 121 with all-rounder Dave Bernard, who was unbeaten on 55 at the close.

Nero appointed to Emirates Intl Panel

St John’s, Antigua – The International Cricket Council has approved the West Indies Cricket Board’s recommendations for the Emirates International Panel of ICC Umpires.

Veteran Jamaican umpire Norman Malcolm has been re-appointed while Trinidadian Peter Nero has been appointed to the panel for the first time. Joel Wilson – also from Trinidad – and Barbadian Gregory Brathwaite have been appointed 3rd Umpires on the Emirates International Panel.

Samuels & selectors agree on course of action

St John’s, Antigua– Following the injury to Dwayne Bravo Chairman of the West Indies Selection Committee Clyde Butts held discussion with Marlon Samuels about possible nomination to replace Bravo.

After discussions Butts and Samuels agreed that he would be better served continuing to play in the WICB Regional 4 Day Tournament as he continues his return following a two year absence from the game.

Butts and Samuels agreed that he also needed to work on getting fitter for a possible return to international cricket in the future.
