AT CONAREE - Windward Islands v Leeward Islands

A gritty 101 from Gian Benjamin did enough to keep the Windward Islands in the game at stumps on Day 1. Benjamin was the standout figure for the Windward Islands in an otherwise poor display of batting. Highly-rate opener, Gidron Pope, only managed 18. The second highest score was 40 from Ray Jordan.

In fact, besides those three batsmen, no one else got into double figures. But Benjamin stood firm amid chaos, belting 13 fours and a six in his knock. Alzari Joseph was the pick of the Leeward Islands bowlers, taking 6-44. Tristan Hanley finished with 3-40.

The Leeward Islands in their first innings closed Day 1 on 34/1, with another highly rated opener, Shawn Tuitt, falling cheaply for two. Ross Powell was unbeaten on 16 while Shaquille Martina is with him on 6. The Leewards trail by 178 runs with nine first innings wickets in hand.

AT WARNER PARK - Barbados v Guyana

Bowlers dominated on the opening day at Warner Park as 13 wickets tumbled. Guyana were bowled out for 234, but then returned to leave Barbados in trouble by the close of play.

Young batting sensation, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, played out a patient 21 from 97 balls but it was contributions from Shimron Hetmyer (39), Brian Sattur (37) and Romari Shepherd (36) down the order that really propelled the innings. But partnerships were not made to last for long.

The Bajan bowlers took wickets at regular intervals to stem Guyana's progress. One such bowler was Jameel Stuart, who finished with 4-15. Jerome Jones had 2-15. In Barbados' first knock at the crease, they were left reeling on 53/3 at the close. Denesh Mangal and Vishoal Narayan both struck for the Guyanese.

For Barbados, Aaron Jones is unbeaten on 9, while Jameel Stuart is on 7. Barbados trail Guyana by 181 runs.
