Rampaul takes 5-51 but Windies fall

Chennai, India – West Indies suffered another batting collapse as they fell to India by 80 runs in their final ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Group B match at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk.

The Windies slipped from 154-2 in the 31st over to be bowled out for 188 with 42 balls left in reply to India’s 268 all out in 49.1 overs. The weak batting undid a career-best spell from fast bowler Ravi Rampaul, in his first World Cup match, and another fine innings from Devon Smith, the in-form left-handed opener.

Windies to face Pakistan in World Cup quarter-final on Wednesday

Chennai, India – Following Sunday’s defeat against India the West Indies ended in fourth position in Group B of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. The result meant that the Windies still booked a spot in the quarter-finals.

The Windies will now travel to Dhaka, Bangladesh for their quarter-final against Pakistan, who topped Group A. The match will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium on Wednesday in a day/night contest at 2.30 pm (4.30 am Eastern Caribbean Time/3.30 am Jamaica Time).

Windies aim to get better of India

CHENNAI, India –  Already with one foot in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, West Indies will look to confirm their place there when they meet pre-tournament favourites India here Sunday.

Bangladesh’s heavy 206-run defeat to South Africa virtually sealed a spot in the next round for the Caribbean side and once they avoid a blow-out at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, they will be the final side from Group B to advance and do battle with the top eight teams starting next week.

Pakistan end Australia's run

Colombo, Sri Lanka – Pakistan recorded an historic win over Australia on Saturday to bring the defending champs’ 34-match unbeaten run in the ICC Cricket World Cup to a halt.

The amazing unbeaten record dating back to 1999 was finally broken as the Pakistanis earned a hard-fought four-wicket win on an unpredictable surface at the refurbished R Premadasa Stadium in Khetterama.

Australia, who have won the last three World Cups during the run and were unbeaten in five matches in Group A in this tournament, were bowled out for 176.

Dhaka, Bangladesh – South Africa secured top spot in Group B of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and sent Bangladesh to the brink of elimination with a comprehensive 206-run thrashing of the co-hosts on Saturday.

South Africa’s win means India and England are also assured of quarter-final places. West Indies are also expected to secure a spot in the final eight as well. The Windies will play their final group match on Sunday against India.
