Dwayne Bravo out of World Cup

New Delhi, India– Following an injury to his left knee West Indies Vice Captain Dwayne Bravo is expected to be out of cricket action for a minimum of four weeks and will miss the remainder of the West Indies Cricket World Cup campaign.

The right-handed all rounder sustained the injury while fielding to his own bowling in Thursday’s CWC match against South Africa at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.

He had an MRI scan on his injured left knee which revealed a sprain of his anterior cruciate ligament and tear of the knee cartilage.

Sammy looks at positives after defeat

Delhi, India – West Indies captain Darren Sammy is not looking for any excuses after Thursday night’s defeat against South Africa in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 opener against South Africa. The skipper outlined that they did not bat as well as they could have and missed a few half-chances that could have changed the match at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

de Villiers ton hurts Windies

Delhi, India – West Indies opened their ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 on the losing end as they succumbed to South Africa by seven wickets on Thursday night at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.

The Windies were outplayed at the Proteas looked efficient in all departments. A.B. de Villiers hit a superb unbeaten 107 as South Africa easily reached 223-3 off 42.5 overs, to win with more than seven overs to spare. De Villiers played shots to all parts of the field and hit eight boundaries and two sixes off 105 balls to seal the victory.

Darren Bravo hits 73 in WI's 222

NEW DELHI, India, CMC – Darren Bravo made a polished half-century on his ICC Cricket World Cup debut but West Indies fell for 222 in 47.3 overs after they were sent in to bat in their Group B match against South Africa on Thursday.

Left-hander Bravo struck eight fours and one six in 73 from 82 balls to lead the West Indies batting in their opening match of the competition at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. Bravo’s older brother Dwayne supported with 40, Devon Smith made 36, and Shiv Chanderpaul scored 31.
