HYO to battle Cosmos for T20 title
PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD - Hermitage Youth Organisation (HYO) will come up against Cosmos on Friday night at Wilson Road in Penal for the inaugural South Zone Lake Asphalt T20 title.
HYO easily romped to victory in their semifinals against PowerGen at Pluck Road in San Francique. Batting first, PowerGen made 75 all out in 16.3 overs with Kwane Ragoonanan getting a top score of 24 and Stephon Lochan getting 12. The pick of the bowlers for HYO were John Ross Jaggessar with 3/6 and Timothy Narine 3/13.
In reply, HYO easily won the game reaching their victory target of 76 for the loss of three wickets in just 11.4 overs. Leading the way was Brian Deosaran with 28 and Ravindra Rampersad 20.
The finals will be preceeded by the third place play-off between PowerGen and Debe Youth Foundation at 4 pm.
Meanwhile South Zone official Rudolph Ali said the tournament has been progressing nicely and he is looking for a bumper finish. “This tournament has been played in the highest spirit of the game of cricket and we are looking for a good finish on Friday.
“The standard of cricket in the tournament has been of a high standard and the players have carried themselves very well. I visited the games and the turnout was also good, which is a great sign for cricket in the South Zone.”
Chairman of the South Zonal Council Leo Doodnath thanked Lake Asphalt for coming on board. “I will like to personally thank Lake Asphalt for the financial contribution to the Zone and during the tournament it was evident that their investment was worth it. We look forward to working with them in the future.”
