Georgetown, Guyana - Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) ended the opening day of their Hadi’s Cup two-day first division cricket match against the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) at the Camp Ayangana ground yesterday 94 runs short of taking first innings points.
Replying to GDF’s disappointing 136, GNIC reached 40-1 by the time bad light stopped play 22 minutes before the scheduled 17:30hrs close.
In scorching heat and a sluggish track, the soldiers batted first when play began late due to morning rain and slumped to 56-6 before Jeremiah Harris who top scored with an unbeaten 45 and Marcus Watkins who fell six short of his half century, added 46 for the seventh wicket.
Dellon Heyliger with 12 was the only other batsman from the Army team to reach double figures as Collis Butts, son of former West Indies off-spinner and present Chairman of selectors Clyde Butts, took 3-24 from 11 overs with his off-breaks.
He got support from leg-spinner Ronole Bourne (2-22) and Essequibo’s Anthony Adams (2-29).
After former National youth opener Quincy Ovid-Richardson (4) played around a ball from Heyliger and struck in front at 22-1, Marc Nicolson (26) and Guyana under-19 batsman Ryan Shun (2) remained together at the close.
Today is the final day and the action is scheduled to commence at 09:00hrs.
