Guyana win again, ICC Americas struggle

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC - Front runners Guyana continued their unbeaten run by defeating Trinidad and Tobago while Jamaica registered a crushing win over ICC Americas in third round matches of the Regional –Under 19 One-Day Championships here on Thursday.

Guyana defeated Trinidad by five wickets at Bourda to record their third straight win while the Jamaicans overpowered ICC by 7 wickets at Everest Cricket Ground.

A powerful half century from the prolific middle order batsman Keemo Paul piloted Guyana to victory after the young Trinidadians had posted 163 for the loss of nine wickets from 32 overs.

Paul roared to 74 as Guyana eased safely to 164 for five wickets in 28.2 overs in a match which started after the scheduled lunch interval because of rain.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul contributed 41 which included a six over long off that sent the Bourda crowd into frenzy while Askay Homraj chipped in with 20.

Alzarri Joseph and Akil Seetal finished with two wickets each.

Earlier, a solid half century from Camillo Carimbocas propelled the T and T to 163 for nine.

Carimbocas smashed a top score of 66 while Jeremy Solozano and Brian Christmas scored 34 and 22 respectively as Sharaz Ramcharran, with help from Daimon Waldron, undermined the Trinidadian batting.

Ramcharran had leading figures of three for 27 while Waldron had two for 25.

Over at Everest, an impressive four wicket haul from Ramaal Lewis demolished the ICC batting as they crumbled for 123 in 23.2 overs, and crashed to their third straight defeat.

Lewis finished with 4 for 18 while Oshane Thomas picked up 2 for 23 in the rain shortened fixture.

Jamaica coasted to victory reaching 126 for three in 22 overs on the efforts of an unbeaten 49 from Mark Parchment and 39 each from Odaine McCatty and Shahid Crooks.

At Enmore Recreation Ground, rain forced abandonment without a ball bowled in the match between Leeward Islands and Windward Islands.
