Bishoo dedicates Emerging Player Award to dad

Bridgetown, Barbados – West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo has dedicated his Emerging Player Award at the annual International Cricket Council’s Award ceremony on Monday to his father. He said the award came as a bit of a surprise and dedicated it to his father Mohanlall, who died when he was eight years old.

Bishoo cops ICC Emerging Player Award

Up-and-coming West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo has been named as the Emerging Player of the Year 2011 at the LG ICC Awards in London. The 25-year-old, who played in five Test matches in the voting period and took 21 wickets with an average of 35.42, has made an impact within the West Indies side with his attacking approach that yields considerable turn and bounce. He also played in 11 ODIs, bagging 19 wickets at an average of 21.57. Bishoo was the top choice of the 25-person voting academy, coming in ahead of team-mate Darren Bravo, and Pakistan pair of Wahab Riaz and Azhar Ali.

Pakistan women rebound to take 3rd T20

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – West Indies Women were denied a third straight victory as they went down by five wickets in the third Twenty20 International against Pakistan Women at the National Stadium at Providence here Saturday.

Defending a moderate 115 to take a 3-0 lead in the four-match series, West Indies were undone by a superb 83-run fifth wicket stand between Bismah Maroof (43 not out) and Javeria Khan (37) and lost with 15 balls to spare.

Simmons spanks Guyana as TT cruise

Twenty-six year old West Indies player Lendl Simmons smashed seven fours and six sixes in a belligerent 47-ball 88 to spearhead Caribbean T20 champions Trinidad and Tobago to a 56-run victory on the Duckworth/Lewis system in their T20 practice match at Bourda yesterday. A small but vocal crowd saw T&T reach 144-5 in 15.3 overs on a good track for batting and fast outfield before rain ended their innings.

WICB statement on GCB situation

St John’s, Antigua – The WICB has noted media reports in Guyana relating to the Guyana Cricket Board. It has also been informed of a meeting called by President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo and which involved Minister of Sports Dr. Frank Anthony, GCB officials and other stakeholders. Dr. Anthony contacted WICB President Dr. Julian Hunte and CEO Dr. Ernest Hilaire and the WICB has requested written communication relating to the purported plans of the Government of Guyana as it relates to cricket in Guyana. The WICB awaits Dr. Anthony’s response.
