Guyana v Windwards on Super50 Opening Day

Georgetown, Guyana– Host Guyana will open their Regional Super50 campaign against the vastly improved and always feisty Windward Islands on October 19th.

The other opening day match will be joint defending champions Barbados going up against the Barbadian based Sagicor High Performance Centre Team which beat the West Indies in Dubai today.

New boy Latcha in Guyana squad for WICB Regional Super 50

Georgetown, Guyana, CMC – Off-spinner Steven Latcha is the only player without any senior team experience named in a young Guyana 14-member squad for this year’s WICB Regional Super50 tournament from October 18 to 29.

Latcha played for the West Indies Under-15 team six years ago, and last played at the regional Under-19 level three years ago in Barbados began his career at Rose Hall Town before playing for Albion.

Work to start to promote livelier West Indian pitches

Georgetown, Guyana– Bowlers are likely to be encouraged by news coming out of Guyana. Following the WICB commissioned Curators Workshop, curators from around the region have given a firm commitment to prepare pitches for regional and international cricket which will be more consistent and ‘livelier’.

The two day workshop was facilitated by ICC Pitch Consultant Andy Atkinson along with Chairman of the WICB Pitch and Field Committee Gregory Shillingford and WICB Director of Cricket Tony Howard and was held at the Guyana National Stadium.

WICB announces ODI & Test squads to Bangladesh

St John’s, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board announced the West Indies One Day International and Test squads for the tour to Bangladesh.

Denesh Ramdin has returned to both the ODI and Test squads while off spinner Shane Shillingford returns to the Test squad along with rookie opener Kraigg Brathwaite. Keiran Powell, the Nevisian left handed top order batsman has also been included in both squads as well.

Carlos Brathwaite, the Barbadian all rounder has received a call up to the West Indies ODI squad.

'Regional Super50' - WICB rebrands Limited Overs tourney

St John’s, Antigua – Regional Super50 – that is what the West Indies Cricket Board today announced that its rebranded Limited Overs tournament will now be known as. In addition to the new name the Regional Super50 will trial several new ‘super features’ which are geared towards making the games more exciting for the fans and more engaging for players. Principally among the innovations will be a new rule which will allow two bowlers on each side to bowl a maximum of 12 overs each during a 50 over game. The remaining bowlers can bowl a maximum of 10 overs each.
