Guyana Beverage Inc. pumps 1.5M into Essequibo Busta Festival

Georgetown, Guyana - The Guyana Beverage Company Inc. (GBCI) distributor of Busta Soft drinks yesterday handed over a cheque for $1.5M towards the hosting of the 9th edition of the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) 50-Over Festival.

The knock-out tournament is set to commence on December 13 and conclude two days later with the eight area teams namely, Wakenaam, Leguan, East Bank Essequibo, Bartica, Pomeroon, North, South and Central Essequibo battling for supremacy.

The final is set for Imam Bacchus ground at Affiance on the Essequibo Coast. Speaking at the launching at the Company’s Head Office, Diamond, East Bank Demerara, ECB Public Relations Officer Nazeer Mohamed lauded the Guyana Beverage Company for being the largest sponsor of cricket in Essequibo and said they do look forward to their continued support.

ECB President Fizul Bacchus thanked the company for their support adding that the tournament has done well for cricket in the County over the years. GBCI Managing Director Robert Selman commended the ECB for organising the competition over the past nine years and indicated that they will continue to support cricket in the Cinderella County.

“We are proud to be associated with the game in the county; this tournament brings the Essequibo people together. We want to keep the youths off the streets and away from crime and that is one of the major reasons we invest in sports”, added Selman.

The winning team will take home a trophy and $100,000 and the runner up a trophy $50,000 while players of the finalists will be given medals.
