Green, Kissoon hit 50’s, 7-wkt haul for Mangal

Georgetown, Guyana - Imam Bacchus SC and Queenstown were the victorious teams when action in the Central Essequibo Cricket Committee 40-over competition commenced last Sunday on the Essequibo Coast.

At Imam Bacchus ground in Affiance No 1, the host defeated Cotton Field Sports Club by 7 wickets. Winning the toss and batting Cotton Field SC were bowled out for 141 in 32 overs with Travis Simon top scoring with 29, (4×4), R. Kissoon made 26 (5×4), Y. Singh 23 not out (3×4) and Extras assisted with 25. Ganesh Mangal grabbed 7-39 for Imam Bacchus SC who responded with 142-3 in 21 overs.

Navendra Persaud led with 36 (1×6,6×4), Yougeshwar Lall supported with 35 not out (5×4) and Mohindra Balbadar chipped in with 17; Kissoon took 2-31.

At Affiance, Queenstown overcame the home team by 3 wickets. Affiance sports club were bowled out 190 in 28 overs, batting first. Kumar Kissoon stroked 52 (2×6,7×4) while Lallbachan Narine cracked 29 (2×6, (3×4). Extras made a sterling contribution with 49.

Left arm spinner Herry Green snared 4-11, Randy Bridgemohan claimed 3-35, while Akiel Wallace and Kevin Martinborough had 2 apiece.

Queenstown in reply hit off the required runs in 27 overs for the lost of 7 wickets. Green returned to slam 52 not out (2×6,4×4) and Rovendra Parasram smashed 48, (1×6,6×4). Lallbachan Narine, Devendra Narine and Omesh Yougeshwar picked up 2 wickets each for 25, 26 and 35 runs respectively.

The competition continues next Sunday with Imam Bacchus hosting affiance and Cotton Field traveling to Queenstown. Matches start at 11:00 hrs.
