Grant leads former champs to victory in ICCL

ST JOHN’S, Antigua - Dorian Grant scored the first half-century of the 2014 Inter-Church Cricket League (ICCL) when, on Saturday night, he played for a “chance filled” 55 that led New Winthorpes to a 78-run victory over Bible Speaks.

Grant, who survived four chances, scored the first half century of 2014 by hitting six fours and two sixes.

Playing the second game of a double-header at the Powell’s playing field, New Winthorpes topped the highest score of the new season, racing to 96 for one in their allotted10 overs.

The former champions then routed Bible Speaks for a record low of 18 runs in six overs to win by 78 runs.

In the night’s opening match, New Maranatha edged a youthful High Flyers by one run.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, New Maranatha reached 77 for five with a top knock of 25 coming from Vaughn Joseph.

High Flyers, in their reply, were led by Dequan Martin who had a solid knock of 32 not out, but could not get his team over the hump as they reached 76 for two in their 10 overs, needing 11 off the final six balls.

The next round of matches will be played on Saturday at Dredgers and Powell’s, starting at 7 pm.
