Georgetown, Guyana - An inspiring spell of medium fast bowling from Wazeer Mohamed handed Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) first innings points over Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Noble House Seafoods second division 2-day tournament resumed Saturday at GYO.
Mohamed grabbed 4-22 as GCC were skittled for 105 in 29 overs in reply GYO 160 all out in 47.1 overs. Pacer Garfield De Roche supported Mohamed with 2-15 and Trevon France 2-18. The home team were eight without loss when time was called with an overall lead of 63.
Most of the visitors batsmen were guilty of giving their wickets away with injudicious shots; Tarik Dharanlall top scored with 24 not out (5×4), while Bernard Bailey 15, Khemraj Jaikarran 13 and Manny Forde 13 were the others that managed double figures.
Derek Koulan and Mohamed laid the foundation for a challenging GYO total with an opening stand of 52 before Mohamed was run out for 15. His departure triggered a collapse as wickets fell at regular intervals until Shivraj Parmanand and skipper Carlos Reid stemmed the procession somewhat with a ninth wicket partnership of 45. Parmanand departed for a valuable 35 (6×4,1×6) while Reid scored 21 (4×4). Koulan was their leading batsman with 42 (8×4) while Dharanlall snared 3-22, Samuel McKenzie 3-34 and Bailey 2-24.
