Gayle 3rd in ICC Twenty20 Batting
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Marlon Samuels’s whirlwind knock in the one-off Twenty20 International against Bangladesh on Monday has propelled him up the International Cricket Council Twenty20 rankings.
The right-hander stroked a breathtaking unbeaten 85 from 43 balls, with three fours and nine sixes, as West Indies tallied 197 for four to eventually come away with an 18-run victory.
Those heroics have resulted in the Jamaican jumping 13 spots in the batting rankings to sixth and seven places in the all-rounders rankings to be joint third with fellow countryman Chris Gayle.
Samuels, who bowled economically during the game, has also moved up four places in the bowlers’ rankings to 56th.
Gayle, meanwhile, has fallen once place to third in the batting rankings after being dismissed cheaply but has gained 16 spots in the bowling to move to 64th.
This has led to him jumping two places in the all-rounders charts.
Stylish left-hander Darren Bravo also got a hefty bounce in the rankings coming out of Monday’s contest in Dhaka, moving 21 places to 74th after scoring an entertaining 41.
He was joined by Dwayne Smith who eased up five spots to 60th and Lendl Simmons, who climbed four places to 62nd.
In the bowling, off-spinner Sunil Narine is the highest ranked West Indies player, remaining unmoved at 13th.
Meanwhile, New Zealander Brendon McCullum leads the batting rankings while Pakistani off-spinner Saeed Ajmal tops the bowling charts.
