Garcia, Goolie lead Iere into 2nd round

Port of Spain, Trinidad - Iere High School made its long journey from Siparia to Honeymoon Park, El Dorado count yesterday, as Neville Garcia and Jyd Goolie led the team to a nine-wicket win over Toco Secondary in the first round of the PowerGen Secondary Schools Intercol T20 competition.

Spin bowler Goolie, who represented the national Under-17 team last year, grabbed 3/9 in four overs to limit Toco to a modest 99/7. E. Caraballo was the best batsman for Toco, cracking an unbeaten 31, while J Bobb pitched with 16.

In reply, right-handed Neville Garcia batted through the innings, as Iere rushed to victory in 12 overs. Garcia finished on an unbeaten 64, while Goolie contributed 23 not out. Iere will now face Barrackpore West on Tuesday in round two.
