Fletcher hits century as Grenada win
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada - West Indies batsman Andre Fletcher hit a century to guide Grenada to a 14-run win over St Vincent and the Grenadines in the Windward Islands Twenty20 cricket tournament here on Saturday.
Fletcher blasted 112 off 61 balls which included seven fours and seven sixes to lift his side to 177 for five and restricted St Vincent to 163 for four.
Fletcher was in a no-nonsense mood, punishing the Vincentian bowlers to all corners of the National Stadium. He destroyed the bowling including five sixes in one over from Rodney Lawrence.
However, Lawrence had the last laugh when he caught Fletcher off the bowling of Kenroy Peters.
Tade Carmichael (21) and Devon Smith (17) added to Grenada’s total.
Windward Islands players Miles Bascombe and Romel Currency gave St Vincent and the Grenadines the ideal start with 103 runs for the first wicket after 13 overs. Bascombe went for 43 and Currency laboured on for a well deserved 86 but was stumped by Fletcher with the last ball of the innings.
It was Grenada’s third straight win in the four-team tournament and sets up a championship match between both teams on Sunday at the National Stadium.
St Lucia and Dominica will contest the third-place playoff.
