Farm overcome Speed Boat to take Trophy Stall softball title

Georgetown, Guyana - Farm defeated Speed Boat by four wickets to win the final of the Trophy Stall 10/10 softball competition played on Friday night last at Thirst Park.

Batting first, Speed Boat who drew the bye to the final managed 123-2 off 10 overs. Amit Kublall and Wazir Hussain laid the foundation for a challenging total with a second wicket stand of 70 after they lost an early wicket with the score on 10.

Hussain slammed one four and three sixes before he departed for 34. Amit and Navindra Kublall put together an unbroken 43 for the third wicket to see them to their eventual score. Both batsmen scored 37 apiece with the former hitting two fours and three sixes and the latter one four and four sixes.

Farm openers Amir Azeez and Patrick Khan found the going tough and wasted early opportunities to rotate the strike; they had struggled to 35 in the fourth over, but managed to step up the asking rate and by the time they were both dismissed in the seventh over they had put their team on course with 26 needed off 18 deliveries.

Azeez slammed 39 (2×4 1×6) while Khan made 36 (2×4 1×6). Farm lost a few more wickets but Anand Rooplall (16*) and Amir Khan (07*) saw their team home with two deliveries to spare as they ended on 124-6.

Earlier Farm thumped Omesh XI by two wickets in the lone semi final. Omesh XI took first strike and scored 130-3 in 10 overs with Aftab Bacchus hitting 35. Farm replied with 131-2 in 6.4 overs, Khan stroked 73 (7×4 6×4) and Amir Azeez 37 (2×4 3×6).

Khan was given the man of the match in the final and best bowler awards while Amrit Rai who scored a century in the preliminary round received the most outstanding batsman prize. Farm and Speed Boat were given trophies for their efforts.
