Evans eager to recapture one-day title
Guyana Times article.
Georgetown, Guyana - Berbice Senior Cricket Coach Hubern Evans on Tuesday expressed his confidence that the County can reclaim the senior Inter-County one-day title despite the absence of Test players Devendra Bishoo, Assad Fudadin and Sewnarine Chattergoon from the line-up.
Bishoo and Fudadin, along with Essequibo pacer Ronsford Beaton and National Captain Leon Johnson, left for a one-month camp in Barbados with the West Indies ‘A’ team as they prepare to tour Sri Lanka next month. Chattergoon was over looked by the selectors.
The Berbicians relinquished the title to Demerara in the last tournament, but Evans says his squad is not short of talent and feels that his charges are primed to succeed in the tournament.
“Our realistic goal is to reclaim the title,” Evans outlined.
He added “We will definitely missed Bishoo and Fudadin but we have a bunch of good guys who are keen and excited on participating in this tournament and are keen on winning the tournament”.
Evans stated that with the deficiency of the trio it
will give the county’s talented young players an opportunity to showcase their talent.
“They are a number of youngsters who are knocking at the door and with a few of them in the squad it’s an opportunity they must make it count. It’s an opportunity for them to come out and prove themselves and showcase their talent,” Evans expressed.
Berbice will be spearheaded by Test players Captain Narsingh Deonarine and his deputy Veerasammy Permaul.
The squad also includes First-Class players Anthony Bramble, Keon Joseph and Raun Johnson, along with the in-form Jonathan Foo, who has played three List A games for Guyana and Rajiv Ivan, who represented Guyana in two List A games.
The other players are: Kandasammy Surujnarine, Seon Hetmyer, Devon Clements, Jason Sinclair, Romario Shepherd, Gudakesh Motie, Krishendat Ramoo.
Meanwhile, Berbice will face the National Under-19 team in their first round fixture on Thursday at the Demerara Cricket Club ground while Demerara oppose Essequibo at Wales in the other round one fixture.
Round two is billed for September 6 with the National Under-19 team playing Essequibo at DCC and Berbice face Demerara at Everest.
The third and final round is scheduled for September 8 with Berbice taking on Essequibo at Everest and Demerara challenge the National Under-19 team at GCC.
The final is set for September 13 with the following day been the reserve day. The Four-Day format will get going on September 18.
