Empire lose three straight in Cool & Smooth T20

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Scotiabank Empire lost a third straight match in the Cool & Smooth sponsored Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA) Twenty20 Tournament at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds on Sunday.
The Gray’s Farm men went down by six wickets to Medpath New Winthorpes in the second game of a double-header.
Batting first, Empire posted a respectable total of 184 for six off their 20 overs. They had a top score of 57 coming from Alva Joseph while Shane Burton and Juari Jackson had 38 and 33, respectively.
Rawl Lewis was the pick of the bowlers for New Winthorpes as he bagged two for 33 from his four overs. Stephan Matthew, Ian Eusebe and Chad Hampson each had one wicket.
New Winthorpes were equal to the task, however, as they reached 185 for four in 17.4 overs. Lewis was equally good with the bat as he had 67 not out and Nino Henry added 64 not out.
Trevorson Atley was the lone bowler with note for Empire, bagging three for 29 off four overs. Lewis was judged Man of the Match.
Meanwhile, Pigotts Crushers won via the Duckworth-Lewis method over Jennings when they played in Sunday’s opening match.
Batting first, Crushers reached 194 for three with a top knock of 69 not out coming from Adlaide Lake while Jason Peters added 38. Richard Atley, Kenroy Browne and Eustace Martin each had one wicket.
Jennings were 15 for one off 6.1 overs in reply when rain ended play. Crushes, after 6.1 overs, were 67 for one.
Super Sixes action commences today when Diamond’s International Police take on Medpath New Winthorpes at 4 pm, and Caribbean Union Bank Bethesda tackle PIC Liberta at 7:15 pm.
