East win SSCL girls’ title

Port of Spain, Trinidad - East Zone were crowned the first PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) Girls’ Hardball Competition champions after defeating Central by eight wickets in the final earlier this week.

Central were restricted to 65 for 5 in their 15 overs before East romped to 67 for two off 12 overs to win the inaugural title. It was the first time the SSCL held the competition which featured seven zones which also included North, North East, South, South East and South West.

This competition will be an annual feature of the SSCL and from next year will also include a Tobago team to bring the number of participating teams to eight. The girls will have another opportunity to play hardball cricket in a North versus South match being organised by the SSCL.

Twenty-six girls who took part in the SSCL Hardball Competition were selected to continue training to be part of the North versus South match.
