Eager Baugh playing for keeps
Kingstown, St Vincent — Carlton Baugh believes that the hard work he has put in recent years and his positive attitude are what have brought him back into the West Indies. The small keeper has a new attitude and approach to fitness and his overall game and he has reaped the rewards.
Last Sunday Baugh was called up as a replacement for Denesh Ramdin, who sustained a fractured right thumb while at the team camp in Barbados. He is expected to be out of action for a minimum of two weeks.
The selectors then turned to Baugh — an able and capable replacement. Last Friday, Baugh made a brilliant century (140) for Jamaica against Trinidad & Tobago in the Regional 4 Day tournament match at Queen’s Park Oval. Baugh joined the squad on Monday and got down to business of a hard day at training on Tuesday.
“I’m feeling really great about the way I’m playing at the moment. I’m hitting the ball really well and enjoying my cricket. I felt I batted well to get up to 140 against Trinidad last weekend, so I’m hoping to bring that kind of form into these One-Day matches against Australia,” the 29-year-old said.
“I’m always prepared. I’m always waiting for an opportunity to represent the West Indies. It came in an unexpected way but I am ready and fully focussed to represent the West Indies.”
West Indies will have another training session at Arnos Vale on Wednesday morning.
