Double-ton by Corbin now 13th in last 34 years of BCA top league championship

Bridgetown, Barbados - Kyle Corbin's first ever double double-century for Sagicor Life UWI against ESA Field Pickwick at the 3Ws Oval on the opening day of Series 5 in the 2014 BCA Elite division (rebranded from Division 1 in 2012) championship is the 13th score of over 200 by a batsman at this level in the last 34 years.

Corbin scored 203 in a first innings total of 393 for five declared off 63 overs. He batted for 227 minutes, faced 159 balls and struck 17 fours and 10 sixes.

In the previous series, Kyle Hope, the Pickwick captain, hit an unbeaten 217 off CGI Maple at Foursquare Oval.

Of the 13 double-centuries, Martin Nurse and Ryan Hinds are the only batsmen with two. 

Nurse made 213 for Combined Schools (now called Barbados Youth) against BCL at Lester Vaughan, Cane Garden in 2003 and 209 not out for Wanderers off St. Catherine at Dayrells Road in 2009.

Fellow left-hander Hinds scored 201 not out for Empire off Spartan at Bank Hall in 2004 and 208, again for Empire against Carlton at Desmond Haynes Oval in 2010.

Floyd Reifer, the current UWI captain, boasts of the highest score - 265 not out for BET (now LIME) against Banks at Wildey in 1997.

All of the batsmen who achieved the feat of a double-century in the last 34 years have played first-class cricket.

Following is the list of batsmen who have scored double-centuries in the major BCA league championship since 1981:

1981 - Shane Julien (Wanderers) 200 not out v BCL at Dayrells Road. NB: Grenada-born Julien (now deceased - he died in 1992 at the age of 36) represented Barbados, Windward Islands, Leeward Islands and West Indies ‘B’.

1982 - Terry Hunte (YMPC) 202 not out v Combined Schools at Beckles Road.

1988 – Thelston Payne (St. Catherine) 203 not out v Banks at Bayfield.

1997 - Floyd Reifer (BET) 265 not out v Banks at Wildey.

2002 – Ahmed Proverbs (St. Catherine) 210 v BDFSP at Brereton.

2003 – Martin Nurse (Combined Schools) 213 v BCL at Lester Vaughan, Cane Garden.

2004 – Ryan Hinds (Empire) 201 not out v Spartan at Bank Hall.

2005 – Alcindo Holder (Empire) 202 not out v St. Catherine at Brereton.

2009 – Martin Nurse (Wanderers) 209 not out v St. Catherine at Dayrells Road.

2009 – Kraigg Brathwaite (Barbados Youth) 222 not out v LIME at Lester Vaughan, Cane Garden.

2010 - Ryan Hinds (Empire) 208 v Carlton at Desmond Haynes Oval.

2014 - Kyle Hope (Pickwick) 217 not out v Maple at Foursquare Oval.

2014 - Kyle Corbin (UWI) 203 v Pickwick at 3Ws Oval.
