Dominica eyeing successful title defence after second win


CASTRIES, St Lucia – Dominica remained on course to defend the Windward Islands Under-15 Championship title with a hard fought 31-run victory over St Vincent and the Grenadines as the sub-regional tournament continued here Wednesday.

Playing at the Mindoo Philip Park, Dominica won the toss and batted and notched up 147 all out in 45.3 overs. Tahj Tavanier topscored with a defiant 49 while opening batsman Micah Joseph continued his good form with the bat hitting 41.

Extras contributed a considerable 34.

Wickets were shared among the Vincentian bowlers, the pick of them being the left arm seamer Alistair Shallow who had returns of three for 30.

Jahiel Walters bagged two for 15, Urnel Thomas two for 17 and Denroy Jn. Baptiste, two for 19.

In reply, the Vincentians folded for 116 off 39.4 overs, with Rayon Williams top scoring with 28 and Tijour Pope getting 18. The only other batsman to double figures was Alex Samuel with 10.

The Vincentians were undermined by off spinner Jervon Samuel who picked up four for 15 while Jahsceon Alexander had impressive figures of two for 17 and Daniel Dupigny, two for 37.
