Demerara crush Essequibo by innings
GEORGETOWN, GUYANA - Berbice mopped up Essequibo by an innings and 19 runs on Thursday in their second round Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) NEW GPC INC sponsored Inter-County two-day Under-15 tournament at the Wales Community Centre ground.
Scores in the match: Essequibo 66 and 64, Demerara 149 for 9.
Resuming the final day on 45 for 5, Essequibo with a deficit of 38 runs, were bowled out 47 minutes into the day’s play off 10.3 overs to hand Demerara a comfortable win with more than a two sessions to spare.
Off spinner Sagar Hetheramani did most of the damage claiming four of the remaining five wickets. He grabbed a helmet-trick, dismissing Besham Moses (2), skipper Christopher Latchman (1), Joshua Jones (0) and Lanzo Narine (0).
Mark Williams added ten more runs to his overnight 20 before he was removed by Man-of-the-match Ronaldo Mohamed.
Bowling for Demerara, Hetheramani finished with 4 for 9 while Keshram Shewprasad, Timothy Mc Almont and Ronaldo Mohame claimed two wickets apiece.
Over at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, defending champions, GT&T Berbice and President’s XI played to a tense draw.
Score in the match: President’s X1 99 and 152 for nine, GT&T Berbice 125 and 91 for nine.
Needing to score 126 for victory, GT&T Berbice reached 91 for nine when the allotted 60 overs were completed. Matthew Hardial and Steve Deonarine were left unbeaten on 11 and one respectively and ensured GT&T Berbice salvage the much needed draw.
Earlier, the President’s XI resumed on 68 for 1 batting a second time. They reached 152 for nine in their allocated 60 overs with an overall lead of 126 after they had trailed GT&T Berbice in the first innings by 26 runs.
Poor shot selection, coupled with an inability to play spin bowling, saw the President’s XI slipping from 88 for 2 to 145 for 9.
Left arm spinner Joel Seetaram in a brilliant spell of spin bowling claimed 5 for 43.
Raymond Perez made 59 (5×4) after resuming on 44 while his partner Richie Lucknauth added 12 more runs to his overnight nine.
The other batsmen to reach double figures were Vickram Talmakund (16), Zameer Inshan (13 not out) and Andrew Clifford (10). Sylus Tyndall and Joshua Gobin also took a wicket apiece for GT&T Berbice.
In reply GT&T Berbice only resistance came from Filon Crandon who topscored with 27. He received support from Joel Seetaram (13) and Matthew Hardial (11), the other batsmen to reach double figures.
Richie Lucknauth was the best President’s XI bowler with figures of 6 for 36 while Kheshram Seyhodan had 2 for 11.
The final round starts on Saturday with Essequibo playing President XI at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) while Berbice will play Demerara at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC).
