Demerara and President’s XI snatch first innings points
 

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA - Both Demerara and the President’s XI were first-innings winners over Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Berbice and Essequibo respectively, in the final round of matches in the Guyana Cricket Board/Limacol Under-15 tournament.

Playing at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Demerara were asked to bat first after GT&T Berbice won the toss. They reached 151 for 6 from their allotted 38 overs, with Timothy McAlmont hitting an unbeaten 41 (32 balls, 6x4), Stephan Campbell 28 (51balls, 2x4) and Clevon McEwan 26.

Joel Seetaram took 3 for 42 for GT&T Berbice, who in reply were limited to 111 for 8 off 38 overs, with Adrian Sukhwah 45 (55 balls, 4x4) and Steve Deonarine 17 leading their batting, even as Ashmead Nedd took 3 for 30 and Kevin Shewprasad 2 for 18 for Demerara, who, with a lead of 40 runs on first innings, increased it to 75 with all 10 second-innings wickets intact, to  end the day on 35 without loss.

At the Demerara Cricket Club ground, the President’s XI saw their consistent openers, 13-year-old Raymond Perez who stroked a composed 47 (3x4) and Darshanand Persaud 36 (5x4) add 91 for the first wicket, which along with Vicram Talmakund’s unbeaten 36 (3x6, 2x4), guided them to 156 for 5.

In reply, Essequibo who lost both of their opening games to Demerara and GT&T Berbice, were limited to 85 for 8 from their 38 overs with Christopher Latchman 23 (4x4), Azimul Khan 16 (2x4) and Eric Gobin 13 leading their batting.

Richie Luknauth took 3 for 24 which along with Talmakund 2 for 15 and Persaud’s 2 for 22, handed the President’s XI their 71-run first innings lead, which at the end of the first day’s play was increased to 97, as Perez 17* and Persaud 5* guided their team to 26 without loss from 10 overs.

Meanwhile, the President’s XI and Demerara Under-19 teams for the GCBV/GTM Under-19 three-day and 50 overs competitions were released by the GCB late yesterday afternoon.

Those teams are: President XI - Ryan Shun, Rajiv Balgobin, Akasha Persaud (captain), Asif Alehi, Danesh Mangal, Anthony Bophdeo, Martin Pestano-Bell, Yenkini Favourite, Arif Chand, Hakeem Hinds, Nial Smith, Devon George, Keann Harry and Akesh Jagroo. 

Demerara: Brian Sattaur, Chandrika Persaud, Deonarine Seegobin, Andrew Gibson, Travis Persaud (captain), Kamesh Yadram, Kemal Savory, Steven Sankar, Devon Lord, Stephon Brown, Dexter George, Bernard Bailey, Kevin Paul, and Shivram Persaud. 

The selectors are asking the President’s XI to report to the GCB Hostel at LBI tomorrow at 14:00hrs, while the Demerara players are asked to report at the DCC ground at the same time tomorrow.
