Port of Spain, Trinidad - Defending joint champions North Zone and Central Zone experienced contrasting starts to their 2014 BG T&T Under-19 InterZone tournament campaigns yesterday.
Playing at Fatima College’s Mucurapo Road Ground, North skittled North East for 113 in 42.3 overs, and then cruised to 77 for two by the end of the day’s play in 25 overs.
When North Zone batted, Amrish Rampersad led the effort with 34 runs and Brandon Sooklal added 31, while Donovan Clayton (four for 16) and Camillo Carimbocas (three for 14) were the chief destroyers with the ball for North.
Amir Jangoo’s unbeaten 27 and Jordan Warner’s 30 helped the hosts reply with a solid start.
Central, meanwhile, were themselves dismissed cheaply at the hands of South West at Presentation College Chaguanas, making 97 all out in 27.1 overs despite 40 from Jelani Seales. Ronel Rampersad was the main South West bowler with four for 30.
South West in reply lost two early wickets, including Rampersad (16), as Central’s bowlers worked hard to try to keep their team in the match.
In the other results, at Honeymoon Park in Tacarigua, East were in firm control, restricting Tobago to 31 for four at stumps after making 238 for four declared. And at Woodland, South had a good first day, reaching 260 all out before South East replied with 16 without loss by the close.
