Clean sweep for St.Vincent and the Grenadines
ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada - St Vincent and the Grenadines have copped the double in the 2013 Windward Islands Cricket season.
After winning the WINLOTTO 20/20 Competition last week, the Vincentians on Monday beat hosts Grenada on points to win the two-day competition.
The visitors, who won the toss and batted first, scored 233 all out before dismissing the hosts for 146, to gain a first innings lead of 87 at the La Sagesse playing field.
Half-centuries by Miles Bascombe 61 and Romel Currency 57, were the building blocks of the Vincentian first innings while Alton Bubb contributed an unbeaten 32.
Grenada’s first innings were undermined by West Indies fast bowling prospect Delorn Johnson and Kenneth Dimbar, who grabbed four wickets each.
Only Keone George, who struck an attractive looking 32 and Denise Smith 29, provided any resistance.
St Vincent and the Grenadines were- 123 for 1 in their second innings at the close with Salvon Brown 60 not out and Darnwell Hector undefeated on 53.
Meanwhile, Dominica took first innings points over St Lucia in their game at the Beausejour Playing Field in Northwest St George.
There was no play on the opening day because of rain.
St Lucia were dismissed for 82 in 24.2 overs, replying to Dominica’s first innings’ score of 154.
Young Taryck Gabriel hit the top score of 43.
There were four wickets for skipper Liam Sebastian, three for Ray Cassimir and three for Mervin Matthew.
Grayson Pacquette was the top batsman in Dominica’s score of 154 with 38.
St Vincent and the Grenadines finished on 16 points, derived from two wins on first innings and a no result.’
Dominica are second on 14 points, Grenada third on 13 and St Lucia at the cellar on nine.
