Children free with adult purchase ticket

GROS-ISLET, St. Lucia – Officials of the West Indies Cricket Board have welcomed the high attendance numbers for the One-day Internationals in the Digicel 2012 Series between West Indies and Australia.

Outside of two full houses for the second and third Digicel ODIs in St. Vincent, the attendance has been well over 60 per cent for the other two matches so far in the series, with projections for another capacity crowd for the fifth and final ODI on Sunday at the Beausejour Cricket Ground here.

“The attendances at the matches have all exceeded our wildest expectations,” said WICB Events Manager Cindy McLean.

“When we examined our attendance trends in recent times, we were impressed to have seen great turnouts for the first Digicel ODI two Fridays ago in St. Vincent, and last Friday’s match at the Beausejour Cricket Ground, which were played on normal working days, and they exceeded our budget expectations.”

At the same time, McLean explained the WICB’s policy regarding the admittance of children under the age of 16 for international matches.

“Unfortunately, some people have brought children along to the matches with the expectation of entering the ground without tickets,” she said. “As has always been the case, children’s tickets are free of cost, but are only obtained with the purchase of an adult ticket.

“The children’s tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and are available as long as stocks last.”

McLean said the WICB was heavily invested in bringing cricket fans back to the game and hoped to see a number of young people attending the remaining matches in St. Lucia, as well as the rest of the series.

“A deliberate strategy has been undertaken to ensure that people of all walks of life, especially young, emerging fans and older, loyal fans can continue to experience West Indies cricket,” she said.

“We all know that the game remains the passion of the people of the Caribbean, but it is always nice to see that passion reflected in fans at the matches.”

St. Lucia is also scheduled to stage the first of two Digicel Twenty20 Internationals between the two sides on Tuesday at Beausejour.
