Chanderpaul leads ECCCC to victory

Georgetown, Guyana - National first-class batsman Tagenarine Chanderpaul was in superb form recently, stroking a solid half-century to lead Enmore Community Centre Cricket Club (ECCCC) to a five-wicket victory over Vergenoegen in a return match at the Enmore Community Centre ground.

Chasing 165 for victory off 35 overs, ECCCC rallied to 165-5 with four overs to spare with the young left-hander striking an unbeaten 75.

Skipper Bheemraj Ramkellawan and all-rounder Ranjeet Heeralall chipped in with 20 apiece. K Bascombe took 2-27 from seven overs for Vergenoegen, who made 164 all out after being inserted to take first strike.

T Drakes topscored with 47 and A Cameron made 34, while Gavin Moriah and Rudolph Singh were the pick of the bowlers for ECCCC with 2-15 and 2-9 respectively.

Meanwhile, the ECCCC Under-19 team chalked up an impressive five-wicket win over East Bank Demerara Under-19 side on Sunday last.

Playing at the Enmore Community Centre ground, the East Bank unit batted first after winning the toss, posting a challenging 180 off the allotted 40 overs.

Ryan Singh led all scorers with 59, while V Rampersaud made 33. K Sukhai took 2-12 for ECCCC, who cruised to victory at 182-5 from 35 overs.

Rudolph Singh made 36, Navindra Gobin 35 not out and Heeralall 33. Bowling for East Bank, D Seegobin clained 3-40 from six overs.

The ECCCC senior side will travel to Rose Hall this Sunday to play the Rose Hall Estate Sports Club in a return game. The ECCCC won the first game played at Enmore last month.
