Champs Hillview stay alive in SSCL race
Trinidad Express article.
Port of Spain, Trinidad - Hillview College’s chances of retaining their PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) Premier Division title got a big boost yesterday when they defeated Trinity College East by three wickets in the penultimate round of the competition while three other key matches involving the title-chasing teams were abandoned because of rain.
At Honeymoon Park in El Dorado, the defending champs dismissed Trinity for 138 with leg-spinner Jesse Bootan grabbing four for 22 and left-arm chinaman bowler Afdal Khan taking three for 39.
Hillview, in reply, reached 139 for seven with Travis Mungalsingh hitting 45 and Camillo Carimbocas making an unbeaten 35.
Hillview, who were in fifth place heading into the game, earned 17 points from the win, moving up to third place, just six points behind leaders Vishnu Boys Hindu College whose game against Naparima College at Wilson Road in Penal, yesterday, was abandoned due to rain.
Vishnu got three points from that match plus four bonus points after they batted first and made 252 for nine before rain stopped play. That was enough for Vishnu to stay in the lead, with the final round to be played tomorrow.
The match between second-placed Barrackpore West Secondary and Princes Town West Secondary was also called off, with Barrackpore earning three points for the abandoned game plus four for dismissing their opponents for 209 before rain intervened.
Barrackpore are just three points behind the leaders.
Vishnu tackle El Dorado East Secondary in their final round match, while Hillview face Barrackpore in their last league game, tomorrow.
