Carib Beer T20 tournament bowls off today

Georgetown, Guyana - The inaugural Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) organised Carib Beer T20 cricket tournament is set to bowl off today with four games at two separate venues in the capital city.

For the today’s fixture, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will play Police from 09:30 hours, while Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) will tackle Transport Sport Club (TSC) from 13:30 hours at the Police ground.

At the Everest Cricket Club ground, Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) will clash with Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) from 09:30 hours with the host playing GNIC in the other encounter.

 The T20 tournament has attracted nine first division clubs and will be played into two zones. Zone A consists of Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO), Transport Sport Club (TSC), Guyana Defense Force (GDF) and Police, while Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), GNIC and Everest Cricket Club are slotted in Zone B.

The competition will be played on a league basis in the zones. However, teams in Zone B will play one team in their zone twice so that each team in the competition will have the opportunity to play four preliminary round matches.

According to the playing conditions, fast bowlers must account for 40 per cent of the allotted overs of an innings by the bowling team when the team bowls its full complement of scheduled overs.

However, this will not be considered if the batting team is dismissed before the overs are completed providing that the overs not bowled would include and amount to the missing overs from the pacers.

Failing to adhere to that specific playing condition, 10 runs will be added to the opposition’s score for each over of pace that was not bowled.

Meanwhile, a team will be awarded for every 30 runs scored up to 150 runs. A team can earn a maximum of five batting bonus points. Also one bonus point will be awarded for every two wickets taken. A team can earn five bowling bonus points. White balls and coloured clothing will be used in the tournament.
