Brissett leads Mico Masters to win in T20 tourney
Jamaica Observer article.
Kingston, Jamaica - Carl Brissett's fine all-round performance with both bat and ball carved out a seven-wicket win for Mico Masters over Moneague as the 2014 Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum Masters T20 cricket competition got under way at Kensington Park last Sunday.
Moneague, who batted first after losing the toss, crumbled to the bowling of Brissett, who captured five wickets for seven runs off his four overs.
At one stage, however, Moneague were going nicely at 74 for two wickets before Brissett sent them crashing to 102 all out off 17.5 overs.
Martin Clarke was the top-scorer with 44, which included six fours (off 28 balls), Devon Reynolds 14 (two fours), Lloyd Truman 11, while Calvin McGregor took two wickets for 10 runs off 2.5 overs.
Mico Masters, the 2012 champions, made easy work of the small total, as it was Brissett, who once again did the damage by scoring an unbeaten 40 runs, laced with three fours off 32 balls. The other top-scorers were Cecil Lewis 22 (two fours), Michael Donegal 21 (four fours).
In the second game, St Catherine defeated Portmore by 79 runs. Batting first, St Catherine's opening pair of Bevin Harris (39 from 25 balls) and Herbert Garriques raced to 50 for the opening stand inside six overs.
The competition continues on Sunday with two matches at Kensington Park. AEOTEL/KOOL 97FM will go up against May Pen Lions at 10:00 am, while Melbourne Cricket Club take on St Thomas Masters, starting at 2:00 pm.
