Georgetown, Guyana - Two more first round matches of the 2013 Ramcharitar Construction Services first division 50-over knockout cricket competition were played off last Saturday, resulting in convincing victories for Albion Community Centre and Universal Solutions Bermine.
The victories ensured they advanced to the second round, joining Port Mourant Karibee Rice, Police and West Berbice who won their respective first round matches two Saturdays ago.
At Blairmont, Albion Community Centre defeated Blairmont Community Centre by 127 runs. In the match, which was reduced to 40 overs because of a late start due to rain, Albion Community Centre racked up 221-6.
Albion, having lost former West Indies batsman Sewnarine Chattergoon for 38 at 82-3, benefitted from a 59-run fourth wicket stand between former Guyana T20 batting star Jonathan Foo and Guyana wicketkeeper/batsman Anthony Bramble. Foo made 60.
Bramble carried on with former West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and together the two of them put on 80 for the fifth wicket before Bramble went for 37. Bishoo ended on 60 not out, while leg-spinner Kevin Jawahir took 2-47 from eight overs.
When Blairmont replied, former Berbice Under-19 off-spinner Veerapen Permaul took the first three wickets to leave them at 25-3. National batsman Leon Johnson and Berbice Under-19 batsman Nick Ramsaroop then put on 32 for the fourth wicket to help stabilise the innings.
However, after Johnson fell for 34 to Guyana Under-17 off-spinner Sharaz Ramcharran, West Indies Under-19 left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie picked up two quick wickets to reduce Blairmont to 72-6.
Bishoo then took three in quick succession, including Ramsaroop for 32, as Blairmont folded for 94. Bishoo took 3-24 from three overs, Permaul 3-27 from eight overs and Motie 2-17 from two overs.
Over at Edinburgh, Universal Solutions Bermine beat Edinburgh by eight wickets. With the match starting late due to a disorganised Edinburgh having to “rounds up” their team from around the village, Edinburgh won the toss, batted first and were bowled out for 79 in 25.1 overs. Deonarine Seepersaud made 20.
Bowling for Universal Solutions Bermine, Berbice off-spinner Devon Clements took 3-8 from 6.2 overs, Guyana Under-19 pacer Romario Shepherd 3-35 from seven overs and former Guyana Under-19 all-rounder, left-arm spinner Eugene La Fleur 2-15 from six overs.
Universal Solutions Bermine hit off the runs without much bother, reaching 81-2 in just 10 overs with former Guyana opening batsman, Shemroy Barrington, batting through with 50 not out, which included seven fours.
The sixth first round match between Bush Lot Rising Star and Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets will be played on Saturday at Bush Lot in West Berbice. The second round of the competition is scheduled for this weekend.
