Bermine, West Bermine seal semi-final berth

Georgetown, Guyana - Bermine and West Berbice won their last two preliminary matches over the last weekend to emerge as winners and runners-up of Group B of the Universal DVD first division T20 cricket competition in Berbice.
By virtue of their wins, both teams have advanced to the semi-finals.
Bermine ended with 21 points, while West Berbice and Young Warriors Universal DVD were tied with13 points each, but with West Berbice being the winner of the head-to-head between the two, they earned the right to advance.
In Bermine’s match against Bush Lot Rising Star, Berbice born and former Demerara left-arm spinner Damien Vantull took 3-21 from four overs to restrict Bush Lot Rising Star to 94-9 in 20 overs.
Berbice batsman Anthony D’Andrade with 40 not out (6x4s, 1×6) and former Guyana opening batsman Shemroy Barrington 39 not out (5x4s) added 75 runs to steer Bermine home with just one wicket down.
The following day in their match against Young Warriors Universal DVD, Barrington slammed 67 not out (2x4s, 4x6s) and D’Andrade 29 to steer Bermine to 141-6 in 20 overs. After that Vantull took 3-18 from four overs and former Guyana Under-19 all-rounder Joemal La Fleur 3-19 from 3.3 overs to restrict Young Warriors Universal DVD to 91, despite a fighting 37 from Kevin Ramdeen.
Meanwhile, after former Berbice batsman Arthley Bailey scored 35 to steer West Berbice to a tense three-wicket victory over Upper Corentyne on Saturday, the following day, their Guyana pacer Keon Joseph took 4-14 from four overs and former Test pacer Brendon Bess 2-8 from three overs to bowl out Edinburgh for 78 in exactly 20 overs. West Berbice struggled to 81-5 in 18 overs in reply.
The semi-finals of the competition are scheduled for this weekend. On Saturday, Group A winner Albion Community Centre will take on Group B runner-up West Berbice at Albion, while on Sunday, Group B winner Bermine and Group A runner-up Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgers will clash at Port Mourant. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 13:30 hours.
