Bears announce details of Barbados tour
Birmingham Mail article.
Birmingham, England - Warwickshire will play two two-day matches and a minimum of two Twenty20s during their pre-season tour to Barbados in March.
The Bears will face Nottinghamshire in the first game of the Barbados T20 Cup on Saturday March 15. Victory there would take them through to the semi-finals and final day at the Kensington Oval the following day while defeat would mean they play in the Plate at the Desmond Haynes Oval.
The first of the two-day games, against Northamptonshire, will begin at Windward Cricket Club on Tuesday March 18 with another two-dayer starting against Nottinghamshire on Friday March 21.
The trip to Barbados has become an integral part of Warwickshire’s pre-season preparations since it was first set up by Ashley Giles when he was director of cricket.
Giles’s successor Dougie Brown believes the trip provides his squad with an excellent blend of match cricket and training time.
“The March tour is a key part of our pre-season preparation,” Brown said.
“Barbados has proven to be incredibly popular with several counties, who return each year to take part in the Barbados Cup and Plate.
“In addition to having fantastic weather, we have access to excellent facilities and playing our fellow counties ensures that there is strong competition in all fixtures.
“We are all looking forward to our first outdoor matches of 2014 and hope that Bears supporters will be able to join us on this 11-day tour.”
There is scope for supporters to join the squad for the tour hosted by former Test cricketers Devon Malcolm and Gordon Greenidge and former Bears all-rounder Paul Smith.
Packages start from £1,455, including flights, transfers and accommodation, as well as tickets to the Bears’ fixtures, welcome party, an end of tour presentation night and tour merchandise. For further information, contact Smile Travel direct on 0207 537 9844.
