BCB Diamond Jubilee Celebration…75th Anniversary Exhibition launched at NASS

Georgetown, Guyana - The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Golden Jubilee celebration continued on Wednesday last when the Special Events Committee (SEC) launched a countywide exhibition at the New Amsterdam Secondary School (NASS).
The exhibition features twenty-three informative banners that seek to educate on the rich history of Berbice cricket from 1939 – 2014 and is sponsored by the Berbice River Bridge Company.
Addressing a large group of attentive students at the launching, Administrative Officer of the BCB, Alisa Moonsee stated that the main aim is to make sure that the younger generation of Berbicians is educated on the outstanding careers of their cricket heroes the likes of John Trim, Basil Butcher, Rohan Kanhai and Alvin Kallicharran.
Ms. Moonsee urged every student to make the best uses of the exhibits while disclosing that it would be taken to every secondary school in the Ancient County, leading up to several public exhibitions in September, which has been named as the official month of the celebration.
Herself, a former student of the school, Ms. Moonsee also urged the students to make sure that they make education a priority as it is the key to success in life.
Chairman of the SEC and 75th anniversary committee, Hilbert Foster, stated that the BCB would make the anniversary celebrations a memorable one for every cricket fan in the Ancient County. He also disclosed that at the end of the exhibition at the secondary schools, a quiz competition on Berbice cricket would be organised for students with attractive prizes at stake.
BCB First Vice President Anil Beharry in brief remarks stated that the exhibition was the first ever major cricket exhibition to be held in Guyana and urged every student along with their teachers to view the displays.
He noted that that the last seventy five years has been very successful on and off the field for Berbice, Beharry stated that the BCB was working beyond the call of duty to make sure that the success continues for the next generation of Berbicians.
NASS Head Master, Mr. Dhanraj congratulated the BCB for organising the exhibition and praised the board for creating opportunities for youths to fulfill their potential as players. He stated that it was important for youths to balance their educational and sporting careers while also stressing the importance of developing a culture of discipline and commitment.
After the exhibition was declared open students and teachers viewed the exhibits which include comprehensive career statistics of every Berbice Test player, ODI player and female West Indies players.
Berbice records, profiles of outstanding administrators, ODI matches played in Berbice also make up the exhibition.
Among the players featured at the exhibition are John Trim, Rohan Kanhai, Basil Butcher, Joe Solomon, Roy Fredricks, Leonard Baichan, Sewdat Shivnarine, Alvin Kallicharran, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Clayton Lambert, Royston Crandon, Narsingh Deonarine, Veerasammy Permaul, Milton Pydanna, Shemaine Campbelle, Tremayne Smartt and Subrina Munroe.
