Batsmen propel St Lucia to impressive win
CASTRIES, St Lucia – St Lucia put on a strong batting display on a true Gros-Islet Playing pitch, as they marched to a five-wicket win over Grenada Wednesday, to remain unbeaten after three matches in the 2014 Windward Islands Under-15 Championship here.
Chasing Grenada’s competitive 189 for seven off 50 overs, St Lucia responded with a commanding performance to easily overhaul their target by reaching 192 for five off 42.4 overs.
Captain Johnnel Eugene stroked an attractive 74 in 96 balls with 11 fours and two sixes, adding 124 for the second wicket with Kimani Melius who hit 51 off 86 balls with eight boundaries.
Jennick Serieux contributed 14 and Dave Edward, 13, to ensure the home team's victory. Extras again played a huge part in the scorecard with 30 being conceded, 21 of them wides. Opening bowler Shermill Lewis bagged four for 39 in nine overs bowling for Grenada.
Earlier, after winning the toss and batting, Grenada were led by their captain, left handed batsman Johann Jeremiah who dominated the innings with a solid 67 not out.
Batting at number three, he stroked seven boundaries and got assistance from Jeron Noel with 30, Dushan Fraser and Obadele Joseph with 24 each.
Off spinner Lerry Auguste captured three for 25 for the St Lucians.
