Bascombe blitz as SVG top Dominica


ST GEORGE’S, Grenada - Miles Bascombe smashed a half century to setup an exciting two run victory for St.Vincent and the Grenadines over Dominica in their opening game of the Windward Islands T20 tournament at the Grenada National Stadium on Thursday.

Bascombe hit six fours and three sixes in a top score of 61 from 50 balls and in a mostly single-handed effort that lifted the Vincentians to 123-7 in their 20 overs after the won the toss and elected to bat.

Liam Sebastien led the top order in an impressive run chase but the momentum was not sustained as Dominica got to 121-7 in their 20 overs.

Sebastien was unbeaten on 33 which included three boundaries after opener Tyrone Theophille laid the foundation with a knock of 30 before he was run out.

Jerlani Robinson contributed 24 but was caught as the Dominicans suffered a major setback, losing four frontline batsmen before crossing a 100 runs.

Vivian Titre 2-19 and Kevin James 2-25 were the most successful bowlers for Dominica while Delorn Johnson picked up 2-22 for St.Vincent and the Grenadines.
