Kirk Edwards hits 126 not out for Bajans

Bridgetown, Barbados, CMC – Kirk Edwards scored his second first-class century to lead Barbados to 276-2 against England Lions on the first day of their WICB Regional Four-day match on Friday.

The tall right-hander was 126 not out, as the Bajans made wise use of a hard, true Kensington Oval pitch after choosing to bat first. At the other end skipper Ryan Hinds also played beautifully to be 80 not out at the close. The pair has so far added 176 for the third wicket.

Fidel back, Best dropped

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – The return of Fidel Edwards has been overshadowed by the omission of fellow fast bowler Tino Best for disciplinary reasons ahead of Barbados’ second round match against England Lions in the WICB Regional first-championship, starting on Friday at Kensington Oval.

West Indies fast bowler Edwards has been named as the replacement for Best, as the only change to their 13-member squad for the match, ending a 15-month spell on the sidelines recovering from career-threatening back injury, which required surgery.

Braithwaite coming to terms with senior cricket

 

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Kraigg Brathwaite admits that he’s now coming to terms with the challenges of the first-class game, despite his overwhelming success at the junior level.

The 18-year-old Barbados batting prospect gathered his second first-class hundred of 102 not out to earn the visitors a draw, after they conceded first innings points to Trinidad & Tobago in their first round match, which ended on Monday at Guaracara Park.

Powell, Bess praise Sagicor HPC after career best performances

St John’s, Antigua– The Sagicor High Performance Center has come in for significant praise following the first round of the WICB Regional 4 Day Tournament.

Several members of the first batch of students at the Sagicor HPC in Barbados have said that their time at centre was instrumental in their cricketing development.

Twenty year old left handed opener Kieran Powel stroked his maiden first class century against the England Lions while Guyanese fast bowler Brandon Bess took a five wicket haul against Jamaica.
