Augustus ton puts Parkites on top
PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD - Jonathan Augustus and Shannon Gabriel combined to put defending Premier Division champions Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) in a strong position against Caldrac Club, at the end of the first day of their eighth round match at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, yesterday.
It was Augustus first with the bat, hitting 103 to lead the Parkites to 351 for seven declared, before West Indies fast bowler Gabriel grabbed two for 15 to leave Caldrac at 22 for two at the end of day one.
The Parkites were also helped along by Trinidad and Tobago youth cricketer Tion Webster, who hit 57, and T&T batsman Adrian Barath, who scored 49.
Elsewhere, First Citizens Clarke Road United clinched first innings points against leaders Moosai Sports at Honeymoon Park, El Dorado, and Esmeralda took a first innings lead over F&E Diamond in their low-scoring match, at Kennedy Park in Diamond.
At Honeymoon Park, current leaders Moosai were dismissed for 175 with spinner Mukesh Persad taking five for 36.
Kjorn Ottley was Moosai’s top batsman, hitting 54, while Barbados allrounder Javon Searles chipped in with 25.
Anthony Bramble top-scored for Clarke Road with 61, while Ranga Latchana added 46 and wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran chipped in with an unbeaten 52 to steer the Penal club to 198 for five at stumps.
