Port of Spain, Trinidad - Although the 2013 domestic season was not a big success like the previous two years, Queen’s Park Cricket Club still had a lot celebrate during their cricket end-of-season presentation and awards dinner at the Oval on Friday night when Jonathan Augustus was named the Parkites’ Cricketer of the Year.

After winning a hat-trick of domestic titles in 2011 and 2012, the Parkites only won the Sunday League 50 overs trophy in 2013 with Southern rivals PowerGen Penal clinching the Premier Division League and Twenty20 titles.

Augustus played a crucial part in their fourth consecutive Sunday League triumph, hitting an unbeaten 55 to lead them past Merry Boys and in their tense semi-final contest.

The Queen’s Park Oval ballroom was packed on Friday night with Augustus sharing the stage with a lot of youngsters including 18-year-old medium pacer Tion Webster and 17-year-old opening batsman Jeremy Solozano, who were among the five nominated for Cricketers of the Year.

The other two nominees for the top award were Parkite skipper Justin Guillen and batsman Petrock Nicholas.

Some of the other youngsters who crossed the stage on the night included all-rounder Anthony Simmons who copped  the “Fighting Spirit” trophy as the Runako Morton Most Promising Youth Cricketer of the Year.

Webster was the Peter Waithe Youth Cricketer of the Year while his Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 teammate, leg-spinner Jesse Bootan, was named the Phil Thomson Youth Personality of the Year.

After collecting his trophy, Augustus said he was satisfied with his performance but not totally satisfied.

“I would like to score more hundreds. More runs in the league, get a better average and put my name out there again,” the former West Indies Under-19 right-hand batsman added.

“Practice hard, make some runs and hopefully the selectors will see me. That is all I could do, score runs. Mentally I am in a good place and that is what has brought success for me this year,” said the 28-year-old Augustus.
