Antigua Beat St Martin In Under-19 Cricket

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Antigua & Barbuda have won their second straight match in the Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA) Under-19 One Day tournament.

Antigua & Barbuda defeated St Martin by 290 runs when they met at the Factory Cricket Grounds on Thursday.

Batting first, Antigua & Barbuda set an intimidating total of 392 with 114 coming from Avia Christian. Cofi James added 50; Chevaughn Moore made 38, Malachi Abrams had 34 and Akeem Blackman chipped in with 23 runs.

Bowling for the visitors, Shaquille Martina and Troy Toney both bagged two wickets.

St Martin were then bundled out for 109 with Toney getting a top-knock of 20. Moore and Blackman each had two wickets for Antigua & Barbuda.

In their match on Wednesday, Antigua & Barbuda had defeated the same opponents by over 200 runs as well. They will next play Anguilla.

Meanwhile, Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association has named a 13-member squad senior national squad to compete in the LICA Three Day Tournament starting on Friday.

The squad includes Orlando Peters (captain), Sylvester “Bouncing” Joseph (vice captain), Chad Hampson, Nino Henry, Mali Richards, Rakeem “Jimbo” Cornwall, Kadeem Phillip, Gavin Tonge, Anthony “I-Roots” Martin, Stanny Simon, Kerry Mentore, Jermaine Otto and Maxwell Georgeson.

The team is coached by former national and West Indies player Winston Benjamin, while Dane Gustave travels as scorer. Antigua & Barbuda will open their campaign against Montserrat on Friday. They will then take on Anguilla from July 12 to 14 here in Antigua.
