Anisa pumped up, wants series sweep

Bridgetown, Barbados — Anisa Mohammed said West Indies Women plan to be positive and aggressive against Sri Lanka Women, seeking a series-clinching victory in the second One-Day International on Friday at the Windward Sports Club.

The Windies Women took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, when they won by 88 runs on Wednesday, and will be looking to wrap things up at the picturesque countryside ground.

Mohammed co-starred with a five-wicket haul in the opening contest and she said the home team are targetting a clean sweep of the series.

“We played really well in the first match and we came away with a pretty comprehensive win,” said Mohammed, whose 5-34 — her fifth five-wicket haul at this level — moved her to a West Indies ODI record 83 wickets.

“We believe we can get better and we want to get better, so we still have some ‘pushing’ to do still.”

She added: “We believe we can win 3-0 and we will look to beat them 3-0. We will play with the same level of intensity, focus and aggression we demonstrated in the first match and we know if we do, the Sri Lankans will find it hard to overturn us.”

Mohammed, who first played for the Windies way back in 2003 at age 14, said she had to dig deep to get much purchase out of the docile pitch at Kensington Oval in the opening match.

“The first match was no walk in the park,” she said. “We won by a big margin, but you had to bowl very well.  There was little margin for error. The pitch was really good for batting and I was not getting as much turn as I expected. I had to rely on my variations and changes of pace.

“I expect more of the same during the upcoming matches, so the approach will be to try to keep the Sri Lankans in check and then look for the wickets afterward.”
