Allround Currency leaves Sussex broke

NORTH SOUND, Antigua – Captain Romel Currency produced an fine all-round performance to spur Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) to their first win by 29 runs over Sussex in Group-B of the Caribbean Twenty20 tournament at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground on Saturday.

Currency slammed 48 off the same number of balls with three boundaries as opener in his team’s total of 130 for five off 20 overs after they won the toss.

He then returned with his underrated spin bowling to grab four for eight off four overs to be the undisputed Player-of-the-Match.

Currency and all-rounder Kyle Mayers added 51 for the fourth wicket in 8.1 overs.

Left-hander Mayers scored 33 off 31 balls with two sixes and one four.

Chris Liddle took two for 17 off four overs.

Sussex lost wickets steadily after reaching 51 for three in the 11th over and were limited to 101 for nine.

Opener Joe Gatting topscored with 37 off 32 balls, which included five fours and one six. Ben Brown contributed 27 off 23 balls, striking two fours and one six.
