Bridgetown, Barbados - Opener Nicholas Alexis hit the only half-century of the drawn Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) two-day trial match as spin bowlers again stood out on the final day at 3Ws Oval on Thursday.

Trinidadian Alexis scored 73 in a total of 222 all out off 71.1 overs by Steven Jacobs' XI in reply to Raymon Reifer's XI first innings of 199 in 77.2 overs.

Starting the day on nine without loss, Jacobs' side were given a first wicket stand of 49 by Alexis and Anthony Alleyne before left-hander Alleyne fell for 26 off left-arm medium-pacer Raymon Reifer.

Day 1 Report

There was fairly steady batting from the top four but a slump then set in with the last seven wickets crashing for 45 runs. Leg-spinner Akeem Dewar and left-arm spinner Kristopher Ramsaran each took four wickets.

Alexis, who is a yet to make his first-class debut and whose seven matches in limited overs competition for CCC have produced just 44 runs including four 'ducks' at an average of 6.44 since his debut in 2011, showed that he could be a contender for a place in the team for the WICB four-day championship, which starts February 28.

He batted for 208 minutes, faced 154 balls and struck seven fours after reaching his fifty in 163 minutes off 110 balls with six boundaries before being caught and bowled by former Barbados Under-19 team off-spinner Chaim Holder.

Barbadian Kyle Hope, who made 123 runs without being dismissed in three recent CCC 50-over trial matches but still was not selected in the squad for the WICB NAGICO Super50 tournament in Trinidad, starting January 30, contributed 35, while compatriot and former CCC captain Kyle Corbin made 29.

Ramsaran, who hails from Trinidad & Tobago, took four for 36 off 12.1 overs, and Jamaican Dewar, a regular in the CCC side, picked up four for 56 off 19 overs.

On the opening day, Barbadian spinners Jomel Warrican and Ryan Austin shared nine wickets.

Reifer's XI ended on 77 for one off 16 overs in their second innings with Wayne Morgan unbeaten on 47 and fellow Jamaican Paul Palmer, 22 not out.
