Affiance, Scramblers register wins as NOC cricket development programme continues

Georgetown, Guyana - Affiance and Scramblers registered victories when the New Opportunity Corps (NOC) cricket development programme continued on Saturday last with two U-15 matches on the Essequibo Coast.

In the first game which was reduced to 6 overs due to rain at the NOC ground, NOC A went down to Scramblers by 4 wickets. NOC A batted first and mustered 45-3 off their allotted overs.

Darshan Indar and Joshua Jones led with 13 each while extras contributed 17.  Leonardo Bennett grabbed 2-7 and Jermain Norton 1-6. Scramblers responded with 47-6 off 5.4 overs. Eon Smith made 12 as Extras assisted with a healthy 27. Indar took 2-11 while Shaquille Sue and Shamar Dusraj had one each.

In the second game which was reduced to 12 overs, Affiance defeated NOC B by 9 runs. Affiance took first strike and scored 68-4 in 12 overs. Extras top scored with 27, while Mahendra Khellawan and Yougeshwar Oudit made 11 apiece; Stephan Apple, Sachin Persaud and Ronaldo Parris picked up one wicket each. NOC B replied with 59 all out in 11.5 overs.

Sachin Persaud was their leading batsman with 15 and Mahendra Persaud chipped in with 11. A. Persaud and Y. Oudit snared 3 wickets each for the winners.

Meanwhile, Coach Forbes Daniels told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that he is pleased that the South Essequibo Cricket Committee has supported the programme which is designed to improve sports in Essequibo.

He said that female players will be involved in future matches adding that former Guyana female U-19 player Davina Goberdhan will captain one of the teams in the next round on Saturday.
