ABCA set to day three-day squad

St. John’s Antigua- Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA) Secretary Martin Cave said a squad is yet to be assembled to start training for next month’s Leeward Islands Three-Day Tournament.

Cave said the ABCA has however asked each member clubs to ensure all players are physically fit ahead of possible selection on the national senior side.

Cave said the ABCA would likely disclose the training squad to the public by Monday.

He said the ABCA is leaning towards retaining Hugh Gore as team manager, but the search is on to find new coach to replace Leon “Kuma” Rodney, who is unavailable.

“Well, what we have done so far is that we have asked the clubs to ensure that the players are fit because we will be putting the squad together. The Antigua squad to train hasn’t come together as yet,” Cave said.

“We considered that Hugh Gore would still be the manager. Let’s put it this way, I haven’t approached him but we (ABCA executive) have agreed for him to continue being the manager.

“As for the coach, we haven’t selected a coach as yet. I think the last coach was Rodney and I don’t think he is available. I am not sure that he will get time off to do that.”

The senior national team will have less than a month to prepare for the LI three-day championship, which is to be hosted in St Kitts from June 1 to 19.

Cave said ABCA is also making efforts to provide more information about its activities to the public. He said the association is currently constructing a website as a means of disseminating information about its administration of the game in Antigua & Barbuda.

“I just came in and I got a website built; a website for Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association. Unfortunately it is not yet completed; it’s under construction,” Cave said.

“If you do a search for  ””  you would find Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association but this is something that was constructed a couple weeks ago. It’s there and it doesn’t have all the information as yet. Just this week I had a meeting with all the clubs and all the representatives. …We are seeking to get information on each player – to have a player profile – put on the website.”
