Red Force and Hurricanes take charge on opening day of Round 4 in West Indies Championship

Trinidad and Tobago Red Force bowled out the Windward Islands Volcanoes for 191 on day one of round 4 of the West Indies Championship at the Queen’s Park Oval. Winning the toss and sending in the visitors to bat first paid dividends for the Red Force as Anderson Phillip’s pace ripped through the Volcanoes batting line-up, he finished with figures of 5/37 while Khary Pierre had 3/21. Volcanoes captain Alick Athanaze top-scored with 58 with 35 from Sunil Ambris. In their reply, Red Force closed day one on 89/1 still 102 runs behind, Kjorn Ottley struck 47 before falling for 47. Not out are Vikash Mohan and Jyd Goolie. Shamar Springer took 1/27.

The Leeward Islands Hurricanes bowled out the Combine Campuses and Colleges on Day one for 273 at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground at UWI SPEC in Trinidad. Romario Greaves 58, Sadique Henry 73, and Amari Goodridge 75 were the main contributors for the CCC. Daniel Doram 4/37 led the Hurricanes bowlers with Jeremiah Louis 3/54 and Rahkeem Cornwall 3/86 backing him up.

In-form batter from the first three rounds Mikyle Louis fell for 1 before Kieran Powell and Keacy Carty saw the Hurricanes end Day 1 on 20/1, 253 runs adrift from their first innings chase.

Defending champions Guyana Harpy Eagles are coming into round 4 off a victory over the West Indies Academy and their batter and proving to be stubborn against a strong Barbados Pride bowling attack at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua. A patient 87 from Kevlon Anderson was denied a century by the evergreen Kemar Roach. 55 from skipper Tevin Imlach was scalped as one of Jason Holder’s two wickets on Day 1. Holder ended with figures of 2/29 while Roach and Jomel Warrican had one wicket each, as the Harpy Eagles closed Day 1 on 231/5.

Over in Jamaica the West Indies Academy posted 324 all out against home team Jamaica Scorpions at Sabina Park. 83 from Joshua Dorne, 61 from Jordan Johnson and 52 from Kadeem Alleyne propelled the Academy to a solid score. Ojay Shields picked up 3/38 while Derval Green 3/48 for the Scorpions bowling. Scorpions closed Day 1 on 20/0, Kirk McKenzie and Carlos Brown are at the crease on 10 not out respectively.
