Lunch: North Sound, Antigua - Guyana have taken an early upper hand in their opening Regional 4 Day encounter with Leeward Islands at the Sir Vivian Ric hards Cricket Ground in Antigua. At lunch the home side were struggling on 77 for 5 after Guyana inserted them on a pitch which has some grass cover.

Pacer Ronsford Beaton bowled with pace and accuracy on the encouraging but not demonic pitch to snap up two wickets for 17 runs fr om 7 overs. There was a wicket apiece for Keon Joseph, Chris Barnwell and V eerasammy Permaul.

At the crease are Jahmar Hamilton on an aggressive 15 i nclusive of three boundaries and Tonito Willett who is not yet off the mark .

Opener Montcin Hodge made a patient 22 from 57 b alls with three fours as wickets tumbled around him. Captain Sylvester Jose ph added 15 before edging to wicketkeeper Derwin Christian who has bagged t hree catches so far.

Start of Play: At the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground Guyanese captain Veerasammy Permaul won the toss and insert Leewards on a deck which has a hint of grass. Shivnarine Chanderpaul's 17 year old son, Tagenarine gets his First Class debut as does Leewards off spinner Larry Joseph.
